Biomass can be directly used as fuel wood and generate heat Energy. But if it is processed through biochemical processes, it gives better calorific value and more convenient form to use. Such processing of biomass is called as biomass conversion.

Conversion :
Biomass can be directly used as fuel wood and generate heat Energy. But if it is processed through biochemical processes, it gives better calorific value and more convenient form to use. It is called as Biomass conversion.
There are basically two methods of biomass conversion :
1) Thermo chemical processes
2) Biochemical processes
1) Thermo chemical processes :-
They carried out of high temperature and pressure if necessary. Dry biomass is used in this processes. Following are the Thermo chemical carried out for biomass conversion.
a) Pyrolysis
b) Hydrogasificaion
c) Hydro generation
2) Bio chemical processes :-
In biochemical processes the bacteria and micro organisms are used to transform the raw biomass into useful Energy like methane and ethane gas.
Following organic treatment are given to the biomass :
* Aerobic treatment
* Anaerobic treatment
* Chemical treatments
