DC - AC Wind generator

Wind turbines rotor never rotates at constant speed. But important requirements of AC power generation is to run it at constant speed so that steady voltage and frequency are produced. To overcome this difficulty first DC power in to AC power.
The the DC Power is stored in storage in battery.
Inverter convert DC power in to AC power. Hybrid
System can be Made by which DC Power from solar photovoltaic panels can produced and supplied to the storage battery.
Such system is called DC- AC wind generating system.

Application of aero generators :

Aerogenerantors are used for following purposes :


(1) Wind turbines generator sets capacity from 50 to 3000 kw can be used instead of diesel Generator sets.

(2) They are used for remote area electrification projects.

(3) They are used for running water pump.

(4) They can supply power to State electricity company.

Control system of aerogenerantors:


The control system is incorporated in modern aero generators to take care of unpredictability of Wind power generation. Frequent change in Wind speeds causes the fluctuations in the RPM of wind turbine. But for power generation at constant voltage and frequency it is necessary that the generator must run at constant speed.

Important factor of the control system are as under :

(1) Cut in wind speed : This is the minimum speed of rotor at which generation is started. It is approximately 4-5 m/Sec.

(2) Cut out wind speed : This is the maximum speed at which power generation it is cut off. It is approximately 13 m/sec.

(3) Emergency tripping device : It is a control system in which the power wind mill can withstand. It is around 60 to 100 m/sec.
