ENERGY CONTENTS IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF BIOMASS

Energy Contents in Different types of Biomass

Energy density in Different types of biomass varies depending upon their sources and forms. Some of the common forms of biomass have energy contact as listed below :

Types of Biomass                 Energy Content

* Sugar cane stalks --------->     9.6 kj/ kg

* Cow and buffalo gobar-----> 15 kj/kg

* Dried leaves ------------------->   10-16 kj/ kg

* Charcoal --------------------------> 30 kj/kg

* Ethanol --------------------------->  20kj/ kg

* Methanol ----------------------->    25 kj/kg

* Butadin ------------------------>     36 kj/kg

* Fat ----------------------------------> 37 kj/ kg

* Biodiesel -------------------------> 38 kj/ kg

* Edible Oil ------------------------> 40 kj/ kg

Process of Photosynthesis :

Biomass Sources

Biomass Energy

Biomass from the plnats and three is produced due to photosynthesis process taking place in the leaves of plants. Green leaves contain chemical compound known as chlorophyll.
This chlorophyll with the help of sunlight converts CO2 and water in atmosphere in to carbohydrate which is stored in the plant. Due to this process plant grows in sizes.

The chemical reaction taking place during photosynthesis process is given below.

CO2  +  H2O  +  Sunlight  +

       chlorophyll       =     ( H2CO)6  +  O2  +

                                               Chlorophyll

*Energy Plants*

The plants which are not useful in others way except to be used as fuel are called Energy plants to obtain biomass Energy.

For Energy

Biomass Sources

Fast growing trees or Plants can be systematically and scientifically planted in the large area for the purpose of harvesting them as fuel words. Such type  of plantation is known as energy plantation.
Energy plantation actually collects the solar energy and yields the renewable energy in the form of fuel wood. The plants are selected for Energy plantation.
