Principle of measurement of solar Radiations

Principle of measurement of solar Radiations :

How much energy is containing in the solar radiation can be known by measuring by Solar Radiations by radiation measuring instruments. Measurement of solar Radiations is necessary to find out the Total Energy available in The year at a particular place. This actually pre requesites to set up any solar project. There are various principle on which instruments of measurement of Solar Radiations are working.

This principle are as below :-

(1)  principles of Thermo couple :-

When metallic strips of dissimilar metal are joined together at one end, They form Thermo couple. Other end of the Thermo couple produces E.M.F. in millivolt when the junction is heated.
The E.M.F. produces at the end in the proportional to the temperatures. Such Thermo couple can be calibrated by heating them at known temperatures and noting the corresponding value of voltage produce.

(2)  Photovoltaic Principle :

Photovoltaic cell or silicon cell can be used to measure the intensity of solar Radiations.
When the solar rays fall on silicon cell, electricity is produced.
Hence radiations measuring instruments can be calibrated directly with Watts per sq.meter to know the value of solar constant.

(3)  Principle of Solar Concentration :-

Solar rays can be Concentrated by convex lens. The Concentrated solar rays when fall on a piece of paper, it starts burning. How much Time it takes to burn the Paper can be measured by Time recorder. When the recorder takes more time to burn the piece of paper, it can be calibrated in terms of energy { e.g. Watts per Sq.meter }.
