Solar Power
Introduction :
Solar radiations :-
1.1 Spectral Distribution of solar Radiations
1.2 Types of Solar Radiations
Energy radiated from the sun is called solar energy. Solar Energy reached the Earth surface through electromagnetic waves in the form of light and heat energy. This form of energy can be directly utilized as sources of energy to run solar operated equipments and device like solar heaters or it can be indirectly utilized by first conveting it into Electrical energy and then using the electricity.
Solar Radiations :
The electromagnetic waves emitted From the sun are known as solar Radiations.
The solar radiation are actually carries of Solar energy. Various types of radiation are emitted due to nuclear reaction taking place in the sun. Forms of energy available from solar Radiations are light and heat. The Radiations from the sun are classified in to Three groups :
Table 1.1 Classification of Electromagnetic Waves
NOS. Wave lengths. Types rays
1. Less then 10^-6 Cosmic rays
Micro M
2. 10^-6 to 10^-3 Gamma and
Micro M X-Ray
3. 10^-3 to 0.38 UV Rays
Micro M
4. 0.38 to 0.72 Micro Visible rays
M
5. 0.72 and above Infrared rays
@// Ionizing Radiation such as X-rays and Gamma rays.
@// Non Ionizing Radiation such as UV radiations, infrared radiations and Visible light radiations.
@// Ionizing Radiations are very harmful but they do penetrate in to earth atmosphere.
Types of Solar Radiations :

For application and design of solar operated
Device, it is More important to know that the various types of solar Radiations received on the Earth surface. When radiations reach here on the Earth surface They very much differ in characters and types.
Solar Radiations are classified in to following category for practical purposes :
(@) Beam Radiations or Direct Radiations :
(@) Diffused radiations :
(@) Total Radiations :
